St Michael's Church Building Project
Building the Ministry
(Regular bulletins are on the left hand column where you can see how things progressed....)
Over the past few years St Michael’s has seen tremendous growth at both its morning service
and at the evening service, run jointly with its sister church St Stephen’s, Putney.
While such growth is very exciting, it also brings its own challenges. One of these is the physical restrictions of what is an old building now being used in a wide variety of new ways.
Prior to the building project, in the morning, where many of those coming are families with young children, several of the Sunday school groups had around 40 children, and were crammed into small rooms. Enlarged Sunday School space was therefore a priority. The flexibility for extra seating for the congregation was also needed as well as additional toilet facilities. All of these are provided in our wonderful new building.
The huge number of events and activities that our churches are involved with means we needed more meeting rooms and new offices for our staff team of 7 which can be clearly seen from Granville Road! The new building also provides a main reception area for welcoming people into the Church.
The construction of a new reception area/ main entrance hall along the north side of the church, allowed us to rearrange the current front area as an improved kitchen, extra toilets and redesigned Sunday School rooms. There is also a new mezzanine level, which allows for extra seating when required as well as further meeting rooms.
