Do you want to make a difference in the local community? Do you have the time to become a “friend with a purpose” to a young person or family in the area?
We run a community mentoring scheme which enables young people to be paired with trained coaches who will spend time with them on a fortnightly basis or so, listening and helping them reach their goals in life.
We are fully trained and supported by an organisation called Catalyst ( www.catalysttrust.org ). They have a wide experience in running schemes in the UK and in Australia. The programme is accredited by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. It teaches both the practical skills needed to be a good mentor, as well as important issues such as safeguarding and boundaries.
The Coaches are supported regularly with ongoing training (monthly on a Wednesday evening as part of the Crucible evenings ) and on a one to one level by the Co-ordinator.
If you are interested in knowing more or getting involved please contact Jenni Spargo via the church office.
